Open Media Controller

The Product#

iart interactive have been using media controllers since the very beginning of their existence, throughout their lifespan constantly developing more advanced solutions. By taking all the learnings and features from previous controllers they have now developed the first professional open source media controller (OMC) and are ready to offer this product to the public.

This media controller is a professional open-source computing platform and environment. It has a similar background to the highly popular Arduino tool, built on two components: hardware and online platform. It is based on a media board and acts as a controller for developing interactive projects in a simple programming environment. The similarity to the Arduino product also gives it the compatibility, which means that the same coding, shields and large community can be used.

The Open Media Controller is for everyone that creates interactive solutions and wants to be more secure with the product that brings the project to life in a professional and safe surrounding. The OMC is CE certified, has a secure housing, more built-in features than any comparable product, adaptable to customer requirements and has been created by a company that uses and needs exactly these kinds of products in their everyday business.

There are two standard versions of the Open Media Controller, the basic plug and play model with a smaller housing and only one DMX-plug and the advanced version with a larger housing, a display, two DMX-plugs and customisable back panel for optional shields. Both models already come with a high level of features including Micro SD, WLAN module socket, Bluetooth module socket, power supply, real time clock, and external functional buttons.

iart interactive also offer a shield design service, which is very flexible and any shield can be created in the shortest of periods.

The Hardware#

The hardware is based on a simple I/O-board with a microcontroller, analog and digital inputs and outputs. This device is used to control interactive objects or to interact with software applications on computers.

The aluminium housing is very high in quality, with a design that says beauty lies in minimalism. The housing is made out of four parts for flexibility and robust screws for never ending taking apart and putting back together.

Versions#

There are two different versions of the Open Media Controller: - The standard version of the controller comes with built in character display and two DMX plugs for daisy chain. - The slim version of the open media controller comes with a smaller housing, without display and with only one DMX plug which can be used as in- or output.

CE Certified#

iart interactive’s Open Media Controller is fully certified by the European Community (CE) and because of this coheres with the Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). This certification makes the OMC a lot more robust and decresases defects, hard to define EMC problems and in the long term saves money.

This controller is a step up in the microcontroller platform industry. It provides flexibility, quality and safety. It has more functions than the comparable products and the freedom to adapt the product to the customer needs. It is a professional tool that leaves no limitation.

Environment#

The OMC is not just a physical product, it is also a web based environment where people can share their ideas and experiences.

A key component to the Open Media Controller is the online portal. This website is a platform for OMC enthusiasts wanting to show their latest projects or new hardware / shield enhancements. The open source is therefore not just for the controller but also for the portal. It is free to all that want to be part of the community. Codes and Ideas are to be shared with the like-minded.

This community adheres with the already existing Arduino community. Furthermore most shields developed for Arduino can also be used on the Open Media Controller.
